Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD)

CCHD (www.usccb.org/cchd) is a domestic anti-poverty, social justice program of the United States Catholic Bishops. Its mission is to address the root causes of poverty in America through promotion and support of community controlled, self-help organizations and through transformative education. It provides local and national grants, some of which are distributed and monitored through the Diocesan Respect Life Office.

Annual Youth Arts Contest

CCHD Youth Arts Contest. “The theme of the 2008 Catholic Campaign for Human Development's Multi-Media Youth Arts Contest is, This is the REAL World - Poverty USA. The national submission date is March 31, 2008. There will be two Grand Prizes: one for Grades 7-9 and one for Grades 10-12. Also, up to 2000 words for literature submissions will be permitted this year. In the interim, please refer to the CCHD web page at http://www.usccb.org/cchd/youth.shtml#multimedia for general information.”

Catholic Relief Services (CRS)

CRS (www.crs.org) is a anti-poverty, emergency relief program of the United States Bishops. The American Bishops Overseas Appeal, one of the efforts of CRS, is an annual collection held the 3rd Sunday of Lent. CRS provides local grants which are distributed and monitored through the Diocesan Respect Life Office.

CRS Programs:

Operation Rice Bowl is a sacrificial giving program. Monies collected are used to address hunger locally and globally. Of the money collected 25% stays within our diocese.
Food Fast - A 24-hour fast for our youth. The program has been developed in a way that helps our children connect with those suffering from poverty. Learn to live their faith, and begin to create lasting change in our world.
CRS Fair Trade helps disadvantaged artisans, farmers and farmworkers receive fair compensation for the goods they produce.
Sudan Campaign - Learn about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Darfur, Sudan. See how CRS has helped and what you can do to stop the violence.
