Join Us

As we begin our 15th year of Medical Mission Trips to our Sister Diocese in the Dominican Republic, we are recruiting medical health care and adjunct personnel to take part in this special experience.

Each year the doctors and nurses who participate in our Medical Missions return from the experience personally renewed and enriched.

The challenge involved in sharing your professional skills in somewhat limited conditions generally seems small in comparison to the warmth and hospitality that surrounds the trip.

In addition to surgical, medical and dental specialists, we seek pharmacists, lab technicians, EKG technicians, anesthesiologists, ophthalmologists and a wide variety of support personnel such as electricians, translators, clerical and general helpers.

The ability to speak Spanish is not essential and all talents are put to good use. The principal requirement for participation is an attitude of love and respect toward the people we are serving. You need have only a spirit of adventure and generosity, flexibility and willingness to work as a team.

What it Takes

The Mission Office accepts donations of medical supplies, hospital, laboratory and office equipment in good working condition. Certain, very specific medications with current expiration dates are also accepted. We are always in need of scholarships for participants and cash donations for purchasing specific equipment and medications.

Important Facts

We fly to Santo Domingo, DR. Once in the DR, the medical teams travel by bus to the various sites we will be serving. The surgical teams will offer their services through Dr. Alejandro Cabral Hospital in San Juan de la Maguana. Although largely out of contact with your home, office and practice, there is limited phone and fax capabilities for emergency purposes. Accommodations for medical missions that visit the far reaches of our Sister Diocese could be in tents, a hospitality house or with a Dominican host family. There, you will be received with love and hospitality. The lodgings are, of course, extremely simple, but be assured, they are adequate and your meals will be prepared with special care. The luxuries of home will not be there, but your basic needs will be met. For Surgical Missions in the city, we may stay in a hotel and possibly with a host family.

The Cost

The estimated cost for the mission trip is $800 per person for medical missions and $900 per person for surgical missions. Each application must be accompanied by a $250 non-refundable deposit to secure a place on each mission trip. This amount covers air transportation round-trip from Orlando, FL (our point of debarkation), all ground transportation while in country, and lodging while in service. The deposit will be applied to the total due. If you live outside of the Diocese of Orlando, costs will be higher due to airline booking costs from areas further from the Dominican Republic.

More Details

Participants in the Mission Office's international projects, deepen their sense of commitment to God's people, both at home and abroad, and are able to respond to the call to be prophetic followers of Christ.

Medical, surgical, dental and ophthalmologic trips are scheduled annually by the Mission Office with the purpose of providing supplementary care to the Diocese of San Juan de la Maguana and promoting an ongoing medical relationship between health care personnel of both dioceses for mutual support and dialogue.

Each mission is limited to 45 participants. Since space is limited, please contact the office for dates and availability. Submitting your application and deposit early does not guarantee a spot on the team. We fill the positions most needed first and then add personnel and support.
