New Directors Program
2008-2009
Directors of Youth Ministry and Young Adult Ministry that are beginning in ministry or have 2 years or less experience in this diocese are invited to gather as a community to learn together the practical, interpersonal and spiritual practices necessary within ministry. The New Directors Program of the diocese is designed to provide:
- practical skills for ministry & leadership
- relationships with those experienced in catechesis
- reflection on the relevant documents
- connecting new directors with one another
- orientation to diocesan policies, procedures and personnel
September 9, 2008 - Call & Role of the Catechetical Leader
We will explore the call of the individual to ministry and the role of the formational leader in a parish setting.
November 13, 2008 - Visions of Ministry
There are key elements in a basic understanding of ministry which applies to all age groups that we minister to and with. With a look at the documents of Renewing the Vision, Our Hearts Were Burning within Us, Sons & Daughters of Light, andThe National Directory for Catechesis we will consider these underlying concepts.
January 15, 2009 - Collaboration
Sharing the ministry with our co-workers happens in many settings: the work shared between parishes, and within our parishes with staff, parishioners and ministry teams, as well as with organizations which serve youth and families within our communities. A healthy understanding of Christian collaboration is essential to ministry.
March 12, 2009 - Forming and Supporting a Ministry Team
The support that we provide to those called to serve within formational ministries includes communicating clear expectations, matching individual gifts to leadership opportunities, highlighting ongoing opportunities for formation, and creating an environment of affirmation that allows continuing growth and providing.

A time of reflection on the year in ministry, your personal formational growth, and a look to the road that lies ahead as we close this year’s New Directors group.

Train the Trainers Days
Monday October 20 & Tuesday October 21, 2008
The Office is forming a team of 10-15 youth ministers willing to facilitate the Sharing the Vision trainings in parishes. Those interested must be willing to be part of additional training and follow-up at additional times throughout the year.
