Last month four St. Paul’s Catholic School 8th graders received recognition for their writing. The 8th grade participated in the 8th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King essay contest sponsored by Lake-Sumter Community College in Leesburg. The title of the essay and event was “Celebrate the Man…Live the Message”.  With over 650 middle and high school essay entries and only 15 attributed to St. Paul’s, it was surprising to see four of the 15 awards go to the St. Paul’s writers.

The award ceremony was held in the Everett A. Kelly Convocation Center of Lake Sumter Community College on Friday, January 13.  Awards for the winning essays were presented by Dr. Charles Mojock, President, Lake-Sumter Community College, Dr. Barbara Howard, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Lake-Sumter Community College, Dr. Susan Moxley, Superintendent of Schools, Lake County Schools, and Mrs. Rosanne Brandeburg, Chairperson, Lake County School Board.

Award winners received a trophy and cash prizes.  Recipients included Logan--First Place, Monica--Second Place, and Lynette and Chase--Third Place.
