Deacon’s Council

DIACONATE COUNCIL

 The Diaconate Council of the Diocese of Orlando was established to serve as an advisory body to the Bishop regarding the formation, ministry, and life of deacons in the Diocese.  It is intended to provide a forum for the input of deacons, their wives and widows, their families, pastors, parishes, and the whole community of the faithful.  The Council shall assist the Bishop and his staff in planning, coordinating, and evaluating all aspects of diaconal life and ministry, especially the post-ordination educational and spiritual formation of deacons.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To assist the Bishop in the fulfillment of his mission and to advise in matters pertaining to the total Diaconate Community. 
  • To suggest policies and procedures for the good of the total Diaconate Community for the consideration of the Diaconate Council.  To supervise the implementation of those which are recommended by the Council and approved by the Bishop. 
  • To facilitate communication between the various branches of the Diaconate Community:  Bishop’s Office, various Committees and the Council. 
  • To coordinate and administrative structures of the Diaconate Community:  Bishop, Director, Associate Directors, Deanery Diaconate representatives. 
  • To assist in the selection process of Deanery representatives. 
  • To assist in planning and coordinating an annual Diaconate Community Convocation, retreats (spiritual and educational), and other events.

The Diaconate Council shall be composed of the following members:

COMMITTEES :

Committees are appointed, as required, to conduct particular projects or tasks. They may be formed by order of the Director of the Diaconate, Diaconate Advisory Board, or Diaconate Council.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Diaconate Executive Committee serves as the principal advisory body to the Director for the Diaconate Community.  It is responsible for the establishment and implementation of all policies and procedures pertaining to the good order of the Diaconate Community and the enhancement of diaconal ministry within this Diocese.

ELECTION OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:

The elected officers shall serve for two years and until their successors shall be elected.  All officers are eligible for reelection.  Officers shall be elected at the assembly of the community at the annual Continuing Education weekend.
