Do Small Community Leaders need to be fingerprinted?
The Diocese of Orlando requires that members of the parish team be fingerprinted, safe environment trained and cleared to participate on the parish team. It is important that the Diocesan Coordinator receives the list of your parish team members so he might verify their clearance and/or alert the Office of Fingerprinting to take appropriate measures to meet this expectation.
Small Community Leaders will not be required to be fingerprinted, safe environment trained and cleared UNLESS they lead a group on church property or in the home of another individual.
Is there a process for commissioning Small Community Leaders?
As the Why Catholic? handbook suggests, parishes have the opportunity to ‘bless’ their parish teams and small group facilitators. If you decide to use this option from the Parish Team Handbook, Handouts 8 and 21, please bless them at the conclusion of the General Intercessions with an intention for the ministry, (instead of the questions presented in the handbook) and the extension of hands with blessing or at the conclusion of the Liturgy. The best practice would be after the Prayer after Communion and before the Blessing of the assembly.
