My name is Laura. What I love the most about my first year here at Bishop Grady Villas is my new independence. At my first school, I felt like I was treated like a child. It was too sheltered. But here I learned how to shop on my own at the local Wal Mart by walking with a buddy and then making my own purchases. Here at the Villas I am free to be independent but always keep in touch with my mom and dad by using the computers that are open all day for me to email. It is not like a lab in schools that are only open during class hours. The vocational class has taught me real life classes that I use everyday - not just boring facts. I learned to fix my own breakfast at my house which I love. I especially love entertaining my new roommates in my new Villa. After dinner I sit at the new picnic tables which gives us a special hang out place to be together and not just an inside common area with everyone. The last thing that the Villas has taught me is the importance of my job skills and responsibility. When I went on a trip to visit my parents and made sure I requested the time off from my supervisor, my mom said that this showed how responsible and independent I have become.
