Mission Statement
We, the Hispanic Catholics of the Diocese of Orlando, in union with our bishop, called by God to form a community and to continue Jesus mission, and putting into action our baptismal commitment, accept as our obligation:
To live and promote, through a pastoral de conjunto, a church model that is based on community, a church that has heard the Gospel, which is sent to preach the Gospel, is mission-conscious, open to the cultural diversity that exists, so that, united in a true integration with the whole Diocese, we may:
- Promote peace through justice
- Develop leaders through an integral education
- Give priority to children, youth, women, families, farm workers, and those separated from the church
- Promote a church model that, in its cultural and racial diversity, promotes doctrinal unity, commitment and communication
Embody in ourselves the same feelings Jesus had and, following his example, succeed in acting as leaven for the true Kingdom of God in the world, now and in the future.
Who are we?
The Office of Hispanic Ministry of the Diocese of Orlando has been working for the Hispanic communities for over 20 years. The Diocese is divided in 9 zones (counties): Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter, and Volusia. Within these counties there is a total of 38 parishes and 5 missions that offers Hispanic mass, and offer different ministries to assist the Hispanics.
The mission of the Office of Hispanic Ministry is to welcome Catholic Hispanics providing them with their evangelical needs via the Chancery resources. The Diocese of Orlando already has structures that deal with these elements of the ministry but somehow the Spanish-speaking population’s needs are growing more rapidly in the past few years and we need to complement those diocesan structures to be able to meet the needs of the Spanish-speaking constituency.
This is why this Office tries to implement programs enhanced to fulfill the needs of Hispanics, specifically of Catholics that are joining our communities.
Understanding that there should be more done with the ministries of Family Life, Religious Education, Youth & Vocations, Leadership Training, Civic Projects, and Immigration within the Spanish-speaking people, the Office of Hispanic Ministry is working together with these diocesan offices in order to implement structures and ministries that are needed.
The Office of Hispanic Ministry is also concerned about other needs in the Hispanic communities. This is why the office encourages people that feel that they can be leaders in their parishes, to attend the magnificent variety of workshops, courses, seminars, etc., that are offered during the year. The office also organizes meetings with pastors, priests, deacons, leaders who have Hispanic ministries and apostolic movements, where they express how things are progressing in their parishes with the Hispanic communities, and what they expect to accomplish for the enrichment of the constant growth of Hispanics.
