Why do you need to take a saint’s name when you are being confirmed?
–Kira, 7th grade, All Souls Catholic School, Sanford
You do not need to take a saints name as a “confirmation name.” It has been something of a “tradition” to do this but it is not required that you follow this tradition. It is a reminder that we our lives begin anew such as in the case of “Abram who became Abraham” and “Saul who became Paul.”
This month’s question was answered by the Very Reverend Robert Webster, Director of the Office of Liturgy for the Diocese of Orlando.
