Why are we getting a new translation of the Roman Missal?
–William and Ali, 5th grade, Annunciation Catholic Academy, Altamonte Springs

Every few years, because we keep on adding the celebration of Masses for new saints and other special Masses (like the Mass of Thanksgiving for the Gift of Human Life), the Missal that we are using begins to be outdated and requires that it be reprinted.  It is sort of like getting an upgrade to our computer systems!  The first edition of the Roman Missal published in English in 1970 had about 600 pages, the second edition of the Roman Missal in English in 1985 has about 1200 pages, and this third edition of the Roman Missal in English has about 1500 pages!

This week’s question was answered by the Very Reverend Robert Webster, Director of the Office of Liturgy for the Diocese of Orlando.
