Basilica Choir Performs Mother’s Day Concert Among 12,000 Roses

The Choir and Orchestra of the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe, will present a concert entitled “A Mother’s Day Bouquet” on Sunday, May 10th, 2015 at 3:00 pm, as part of the Basilica’s annual Concert Series.

 

 

The Choir and Orchestra of the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe, will present a concert entitled “A Mother’s Day Bouquet” on Sunday, May 10th, 2015 at 3:00 pm, as part of the Basilica’s annual Concert Series.

The Basilica Choir will present a wide variety of sacred and secular music around the themes of motherhood, including several settings of the famous “Ave Maria” as well as music of Bruckner, Schubert, Caccini and more. Featured will be a rare complete performance of John Rutter’s “Magnificat” for choir, soprano solo and orchestra.

The Basilica Choir was founded to minister to the many tourists and visitors to the central Florida area, and to provide sacred music at weekend Masses. The singers in the choir are all professional musicians in the Orlando area and are under the direction of Dr. William Picher.

Continuing a 20 year old tradition at the Basilica, the concert will take place among 12,000 roses in the sanctuary which are donated in honor of mothers around the world and especially Mary, mother of Jesus. Roses will also be available for purchase during the afternoon.

Admission charge for the concert is $15 for adults, under 12 are free. Tickets are available in advance at the Basilica Gift Shop or by calling 407-239-6600 or online at maryqueenoftheuniverse.org.   Tickets will also be available at the door. Group rates are available in advance. The Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe is located at 8300 Vineland Avenue in Orlando, near the Lake Buena Vista of I-4 (exit #68). There is ample free parking.
