Bishop Noonan invites all the faithful to the celebration of the Chrism Mass on March 23, 2016 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at St. James Cathedral (215 N. Orange Ave. in Orlando). The Chrism Mass is celebrated during Holy Week and is one of the most solemn and significant liturgies of the Church. During the Chrism Mass Bishop Noonan will consecrate the holy oils used in Sacraments and other celebrations during the year. The three Holy Oils are: the Oil of Catechumens, the Oil of the Sick, and the Oil of Chrism. The Oil of Catechumens is used for adult catechumens and infants, the Oil of the Sick is for anointing the sick, and the Oil of Chrism is used for Baptism, Confirmation, the ordination of priests, and the consecration of altars. The Chrism Mass is also an opportunity for all priests to renew their priestly commitment and for jubilarian priests celebrating significant anniversaries to be honored.
