A new Rite of Marriage is awaiting approval from the Holy See. It will be used in English-speaking countries including our own. To help us prepare for the anticipated changes, and mindful of the Church’s current priority on marriage and family, the Diocese of Orlando is pleased to welcome Father Jan Michael Joncas (priest, theologian, and composer) to central Florida. Father Joncas serves as a consultant to the USCCB’s Committee on Divine Worship. He is a premiere expert on sacramental theology including marriage.
Father Joncas will provide an update on the Theology of Marriage through a review of the new revisions to the rite. He will explore pastoral adaptations and challenges relevant to parish communities today. In a day-two encore for catechists, he will also provide a seminar on wedding music (i.e. he will play, sing, and teach)… To prepare for this training, participants are encouraged to review the existing Rite of Marriage. Father Joncas’ events are recommended for all clergy and lay ministry professionals, marriage preparation and wedding coordinators, liturgists, musicians, catechists, and others involved in areas relevant to the celebration of marriage.
