Advent begins on December 1st. Our Catholic Christian tradition calls us to renewal during this liturgical season. While the “world” tells us to hurry and get ready for the Christmas celebration, Advent calls us instead to slow down, to pause, and to reflect on our Lord’s coming and what that means in our lives. The theologian, Father Michael Himes suggests that Catholic Christians are always in Advent, as we wait and hope for God. To help us joyfully prepare and prayerfully reflect this Advent season, we turn to Fr. Himes and his five-part series “An Advent and Christmas Journey”. In this series, Fr. Himes delves into the spirituality and theology of the Advent and Christmas. Sessions include Hope in the Darkness; The Second Coming is NOW; Threatened by Grace; Prophets: John, Mary, Joseph; and Christmas: The Eternal Giving of God. Fr. Himes explores the contours of our “confident expectation” as we await the Incarnation.
