Pope John Paul II Beatification will be on the Web and filmed in 3D

Pope John Paul II’s May 1 beatification in the Vatican will be the first liturgical celebration in presence of the Holy Father filmed with 3D television cameras.

The recording will be done by Sony and the Vatican Television Center, using a new mobile platform system that the Vatican Television Center, which was donated to the Pope by the Knights of Columbus.

The beatification of Pope John Paul II is a major multimedia event for the Church, “another great step for the Church in the digital world, an event of prayer and evangelization that cannot be missed by Catholics around the globe,” according to the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.

That is why the Vatican will also work through its official Twitter and Facebook pages to live-stream the vigil and beatification of John Paul II. The Vatican has also created special pages dedicated to the late Pope and his beatification on YouTube and Facebook.

The Pontifical Council for Social Communications, in collaboration with the Vicariate of Rome and Vatican Radio, is promoting the beatification as an occasion to form an online community called “Digital Sentinels.”

At the same time, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops launched a website to honour John Paul II Legacy. The website includes a memorial video that features key moments of the Pope’s visits to that country.

It also includes biographical details, writings, and accomplishments of the Pontiff, as well as essays about his legacy in East-West relations, the mass media, the ethical use of technology, or the social mission of the Church.
