Bishop John Noonan’s Easter Letter


The following is a letter from Bishop John Noonan to the people of the Diocese of Orlando.

My Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

Just days ago we heard the story of Peter from the Gospel of St. John, who denied Jesus three times. Throughout this Scripture passage, we find various people asking Peter if he is one of Jesus’ disciples, beginning with a maid: “Then the maid who was the gatekeeper said to Peter, ‘You are not one of this man’s disciples, are you?’ He said, ‘I am not'” (Jn 18:17). Finally, a slave of the high priest asks him, “‘Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?’ Again Peter denied it. And immediately the cock crowed” (Jn 18:26,27). In the Gospel of St. John, we do not hear that Peter is filled with remorse for his words of denial or that he becomes repentant. Read more…
