“I give thanks to my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is heralded throughout the world.” Romans 1:8
During this month of April, the state of Florida recognizes Volunteer Month. Volunteers in the Diocese of Orlando work tirelessly to feed the hungry, care for the sick, visit the imprisoned, serve in liturgies, help our children to grow in faith, and share the love of God daily through actions large and small, seen and unseen. As disciples of Christ, they share their gifts with dedication and compassion, showing God’s mercy through their deeds and bringing forth hope among the people with whom we live, work, socialize and minister.
Speaking to World Youth Day volunteers, Pope Francis said, “In volunteer work too, every act of service we provide, even the most simple, is important. Ultimately, it is an expression of openness to the presence of Jesus. It makes us experience the love from on high that set us on our way and fills us with joy.”
I am grateful to all of our volunteers for their “yes” and openness to God, shown through their continued actions which glorify our heavenly Father. May our love for one another bring forth the gift of God; that all will know we are His disciples.
