Community outreach ministry is “in fashion”
Using nearly $1 million raised in Alive in Christ funds, St. Matthew Catholic Church, Winter Haven, expanded its community outreach ministry two years ago by leasing a former Publix store for the Regenerations resale shop. The parish’s youth ministry recently hosted a fashion show event for teens to purchase donated prom dresses for $10, with all of the proceeds going back into the Alive in Christ Campaign.
According to Trish Messner, the Youth Coordinator for St. Matthew, the parish’s ATOMIC (All Together on Missions in Christ) youth group came up with the fashion show to make a high school rite of passage more accessible to local teens.
“We thought about what we can do to give back to the community and also to help the Alive in Christ Campaign,” said Messner.
