Clergy Outreach Presentations

Clergy Presentations by CRS
Clergy Outreach Presentations are offered as a service of Catholic Relief Services to help clergy better understand Catholic Social Teaching and Global Solidarity. Emphasis is given to the leadership role of US clergy in forming parishes in justice and solidarity and how CRS, the official arm of the US Catholic Church for global humanitarian relief and development, lives this out. Each presentation is tailored to a priest, deacon or seminarian audience for initial formation or continuing education at a Clergy Day, Continuing Formation Workshop, or Social Justice Seminar.

  1. Catholic Social Teaching in the US Context:
This presentation is a review of the seven principles of Catholic Social Teaching and their roots in scripture and church documents.  It connects the principles to practical issues the US Church addresses as well as how to preach and teach this in the parish setting.
  2. Global Solidarity in the Catholic Tradition:
This presentation reviews globalization and how it has affected the developing world, especially poverty, food security, health and refugees. Global Solidarity, as part of the tradition of Catholic Social Teaching, is presented as well as how it is implemented by Catholic Relief Services worldwide.  Practical ways for clergy to model solidarity in their lives and in parish ministry are shared.
  3. Preaching and Teaching Caritas in Veritate:
This presentation involves reviewing the basic themes of the encyclical, how they fit into Catholic Social Teaching, and how to help parish members understand and live them.
