Bishop John Noonan invites parish, school and ministry leaders to a retreat on Monday, May 9 from 1pm to 4pm at the San Pedro Spiritual Development Center (2400 Dike Road, Winter Park). The retreat title is “Communication and Mercy: A Fruitful Encounter,” which is also the theme chosen by the Pontifical Council for Social Communications for the 50th World Communications Day to coincide with the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, the Holy Year called by Pope Francis to announce the Mercy of God. The retreat will be led by the pope’s locally appointed Missionary of Mercy, Third Order Regular Franciscan Father Anthony Aarons.

The retreat is organized by the Diocese of Orlando Communications Secretariat. “This is an opportunity for all who minister to God’s people in every capacity to reflect on how our communications can lead others to Christ – which would be the essence of a fruitful encounter,” said Teresa Peterson, secretary of the Communications Secretariat. “This free retreat will provide time for prayer, group sharing and new insights into communication that reflects God’s mercy and is grounded in the spiritual works of mercy.”

The Vatican established World Communications Day in 1966 to encourage Catholics to reflect on the importance of communication as it relates to evangelization – the sharing of our faith and fulfilling the command of Jesus to preach the Good News of the Gospel to the whole world.
