Diocese of Orlando to Commemorate World Refugee Day with Interfaith Prayer Service

Religious leaders from various faith traditions will gather to pray for the plight of refugees on June 17 at 6:00 p.m. The Central Florida community is invited to participate as prayers are offered for the estimated 34 million refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced persons in our world. Following the prayer service, there will be a viewing of the film Lost Boys of the Sudan.  The Prayer Service will be held at Harry P. Leu Gardens Camellia Room, 920 North Forest Avenue, Orlando.

The purpose of this gathering is to raise awareness and pray for the protection of basic human rights such as the right to work, to education and to freedom of religion. World Refugee Day is observed every year on June 20 to honor the courage, resilience and strength of refugees.

First marked in 2001, World Refugee Day is held every year on June 20. Tens of thousands of people around the world take time to recognize and applaud the contribution of forcibly displaced people throughout the world. The annual commemoration is marked by a variety of events in more than 100 countries, involving government officials, humanitarian aid workers and faith leaders.
