Fr. Giel: Celebrating 40 years of priesthood

May 28, 2018 is Fr John Giel’s 40th Anniversary of Ordination to the priesthood. He was ordained at St. James Cathedral by Bishop Thomas J. Grady, the second bishop of the Diocese of Orlando. He celebrated his first Mass on May 29, 1978 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Deland.

On May 3, 2012, Fr. Giel was appointed Chancellor for Canonical Affairs and Vicar General. According to canon law, the bishop appoints a vicar general or vicar generals to assist him with the governance of  the diocese.
