Father Hanley was born in Philadelphia, February 2, 1932, and was ordained in Maryland in 1969. He describes the call to priesthood as an opportunity to share with others the healing and helping presence of Christ.
Father Hanley served in the Diocese of St. Petersburg before arriving in Central Florida in 1988. He became incardinated in the Diocese of Orlando in 1992. He served as pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Melbourne from 1996-2009. In 2000, he oversaw the construction of a long-awaited, renovated parish hall. Hurricane Frances caused damage to Father Hanley’s church, parish hall and school in 2004. He worked with parishioners and the Diocese to complete repairs. Father Hanley and his parishioners celebrated Our Lady of Lourdes’ 75th anniversary in 2006.
Prior to becoming pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Melbourne, he served as associate pastor of St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Altamonte Springs and in the same capacity at St. Paul Parish in Leesburg, and St. Mary Parish in Rockledge.
Now retired, Father Hanley remarked on how much he finds visiting the sick in Palm Bay area hospitals the most satisfying ministry of his priesthood at this time of his life.
