A new report from the Florida Department of Education shows children from families that have limited financial resources are benefitting from a private school education thanks to the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program.
When the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program (also known as the voucher program) was established in 2001 a major goal was to enable children to achieve a greater level of excellence in their education by allowing them to attend private schools, regardless of their parent’s ability to pay. The report shows that tax credit scholarship students are making solid academic gains and outpacing low-income students in public schools. To read the full report, click here .
Doug Tuthill, president of Step Up For Students, the nonprofit scholarship organization that helps administer the scholarships said, “We have known the scholarship is attracting students who were having serious academic problems, and these findings suggest they are indeed getting back on track.”
