With only two weeks before the deadline, Catholic Charities of Central Florida in Polk County is seeking individuals to “sponsor” 86 families who might otherwise have no gifts to open this Christmas.

The goal is to provide for the needs of 150 families but so far only 64 have been “sponsored.”

For more information or to sponsor a family, please call 863-686-7153 and reference the Christmas Holiday Sponsorship Program. The deadline is December 14 and we ask you to consider providing gifts to these families who are in need.

The agency requests that gifts be wrapped and labeled for each family member.  Please deliver your gifts to 1801 E Memorial Blvd. Lakeland, FL 33801 by December 14, 2011. Drop off-hours are Monday-Friday 8am- 4:30pm.

A recent Gallup poll conducted showed that one in three Polk County families find it difficult to put enough food on the table.  The numbers landed Polk County third in the nation in food hardship. Local families are struggling to put food on the table and cannot afford gifts for their children.

At least one major local donor that sponsored 41 families last year is not able to participate this year, creating an even greater need.

Thank you for sharing your blessings this Christmas!
