Whether it is organizing fundraisers, chairing meetings, or raising her three children, Linda Shaughnessy gives her whole heart to everything she undertakes. Over the years, she has demonstrated a willingness to serve and care for those in need.
Shaughnessy’s gifts and talents serve the residents and staff at Bishop Grady Villas, a residential community for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Involved for over ten years in various roles, Shaughnessy recently became chair of the board of directors and is leading the organization into a period of strategic planning to ensure its future success.
“Linda is one of our biggest supporters but she has such humility about her,” says Kevin Johnson, director of Bishop Grady Villas. “Her leadership is instrumental. She has a gift for motivating people and encouraging the community to get involved in our work.”
Willing to help in any way that she can, Shaughnessy does everything from reaching out to sponsors to setting up the ballroom for the annual Harvest Ball fundraiser. Perhaps her biggest contribution is her ability to communicate the needs of the residents in a way that touches the hearts of all who hear her. Her passion inspires others and encourages their involvement in the organization whether through their time or financial gifts. When they see the joy she has in serving the people of Bishop Grady Villas, they want an opportunity to experience it for themselves.
“Linda’s spirituality is evident in everything she does,” remarks Gerri Gendall, principal of St. James Cathedral School where Linda has served as bookkeeper for fifteen years. “She inspires others with her faith, her compassion, and her gentle spirit.”
The same passion that Shaughnessy brings to Bishop Grady Villas is also seen in her work at St. James Cathedral School. She sees to the needs of the employees with professionalism and care and works closely with prospective parents and scholarship programs, helping to provide access to a quality education to families in need. As a member of the school advisory board, Shaughnessy oversees the budget, keeps the board informed on financial matters, and assures that the school remains fiscally responsible while engaging in future planning so that the school continues to offer outstanding opportunities for educational achievement and spiritual development.
“Linda is fully committed to the ministries she’s involved in purely for the sake of the organizations,” explains Johnson. “She believes in what they do and wants to see them succeed. Her work is genuinely from the heart.”
