It has been only a short time since I came to Catholic Charities of Central Florida and I am humbled by the wonderful people I see each day who give so much of themselves to serve those in need in the nine counties of our Diocese. Catholic Charities of Central Florida runs thirty-nine programs that serve a broad range of needs and last year reached out and touched over 120,000 people. We remain deeply concerned with the problems of family life, the aged, the sick, the troubled, and the poor; their plight is often made worse by the current economic turmoil. We remain committed to provide services to all in our community who are in desperate need.
The parishes of our Diocese also run a variety of programs that reach thousands each month. Other community agencies and faith–based organizations work hard to fill the gaps. There are so many within our Diocese who are engaged in the cause of social justice and the work of charity that is integral to our faith, but the need in these difficult times is so great, and there is so much more that can and should be done.
It is my sincere hope that Catholic Charities of Central Florida, as an agency of the Diocese of Orlando, can develop closer partnerships with our parishes and the greater Central Florida Community. Together we can continually provide compassionate, competent, and professional services to strengthen and support individuals, families, and communities based on the value and dignity of each person we serve and expand those services to meet the challenges created by the ever growing demand.
Each one of us can make a difference in our own way – some have the resources to provide financial support, others have talents which they can share as a committed volunteer, and all of us can pray. We must always continue to ask the question – “How can I make a difference?” Once we answer the question we need to act.
