A special Mass to celebrate the canonization of Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II will be held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe on Sunday, April 27 at 11:30am. This is a historic moment in the life of the Catholic Church and an opportunity to give thanks to God for the abundant blessing of the gift of the Papacy and specifically for these two holy priests.
The Mass at the Basilica will be presided by the Very Reverend Paul J. Henry, rector of the Basilica. The Basilica Choir and Orchestra will be performing music of Mozart, Franck and other composers appropriate to this festive occasion.
Following the Mass, there will be a procession to the Pope John Paul II Rosary Garden adjacent to the Shrine church where a decade of the Rosary will be prayed and images of the newly canonized popes and other religious articles will be blessed. All are encouraged to bring their photographs of the newly canonized saints as well as religious objects such as rosaries, crucifixes, etc. for the blessing.
