As we approach the anniversary date of the establishment of our diocese (June 18), Bishop Noonan has given permission and asked all parishes and churches in the Diocese of Orlando to commemorate this event by substituting the following Mass texts for the 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time at all weekend Masses celebrating the Lord’s Day:
Masses and Prayers For Various Needs And Occasions
1.For Holy Church (white vestments may be used)
E. For the Particular Church
Preface VIII of Sundays in Ordinary Time; Eucharistic Prayer I, II or III.
Solemn Blessing 12. Ordinary Time IV
The readings of the 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time are particularly well suited for this commemoration, therefore they are to be used.
“a tender shoot…on the mountains heights I will plant it…It shall put forth branches and bear fruit.”
2 Cor 5:6-10
“although we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not be sight…we aspire to please him, whether we are at home or away.”
“it [the kingdom of God] is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land…and through it all the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how…it is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth…But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth the largest of branches.”
Introduction to the Mass (example)
This weekend throughout the Diocese of Orlando we commemorate our 50th Anniversary as a diocese. As the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orlando, spread throughout nine countries of Central Florida we pray together in union with our Bishop, John Noonan, that we may always grow deeper and deeper into the image of Christ who is the head of the mystical body that is the Church. We join our offering of praise and thanksgiving together with those who have gone before us leaving a legacy of steadfast faith, joyful hope and untiring love.

Invitation to Prayer (Presiding Celebrant)
Enlightened and moved by God’s Word, and thankful for the gifts of the Holy Spirit that have been poured out upon our diocese, let us pray to God for the Church, our world and for all those in need.
- That the Church, together with Francis our Pope, John our Bishop, and all the women and men who lead the Church, will always be a “missionary church” reaching out to all peoples of every language and way of life, and proclaiming the mighty deeds of God.
- That, as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its founding, the mustard seed that is the Diocese of Orlando may continue to put forth large branches so that those who are weary and heavy burdened may find the rest and refreshment of faith, hope and love in Christ.

Conclusion (Presiding Celebrant)
O God, at whose command the seed will sprout and the shoot grow towards full stature, hear the prayers of the family before you. Continue to guide the Church of the Diocese of Orlando, that by trusting in your ways we may build the kingdom you have planted and is now growing in our midst. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
