The perfect answer to questions about plans for St. Patrick’s Day…

Pope Francis appears for the first time on the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican March 13. Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina was elected the 266th Roman Catholic pontiff.

PatrickThe perfect answer to questions about plans for St. Patrick’s Day is not the name of your favorite Irish pub but the afternoon concert by the Emerald String Quartet. Time enough to stop by the pub on the way home! My Irish grandmother, Mary Jane McNulty, was the principal Christian witness in my life. I remember her affirmation, “God is good,” even in trying times. Nana said this so often that I finally realized God is good regardless of life’s circumstances. She immersed me in her Celtic spirituality and prepared my heart for the life-long Christian journey. In the March 2001 St. Anthony Messenger cover article, Susan Hines-Brigger explores four dimensions of sacred encounter within Celtic spirituality: pilgrimage, nature, community and symbolic expression. These dimensions are evident in the 2009 documentary, “Patrick.” Narrated by Liam Neeson and featuring Gabriel Byrne as the voice of Patrick, this one-hour film is a compelling encounter with the 5th century saint.
