In anticipation of the new liturgical year on December 2nd, we feature Dominican Sister Barbara Reid’s “The Gospel of Luke” audio CD series. Produced by Now You Know Media, this selection encompasses 12 talks of 25 minutes each. In an accessible style, this Professor of New Testament at Catholic Theological Union offers rich preparation for an encounter with our Risen Lord in the third gospel. In the opening segment, “Luke and His Community,” Sr. Reid touches upon the stories unique to Luke’s gospel. She reviews the current scholarship about Luke’s identity. Was the author a physician, Paul’s companion, a pagan convert or, perhaps, a woman? Professor Reid enables the listener to appreciate the gospel writer’s distinct themes of the fullness of God’s plan, prayer, crossing boundaries, wealth and poverty, the emphasis on women, the centrality of table fellowship and the action of the Holy Spirit. Order “The Gospel of Luke” from the Media Resource Center by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call Dan Hardester or Diane Gallagher@ 407-246-4895 (or 4897) for assistance. (Dan Hardester serves as Secretary of the Evangelization Secretariat and Director of the Media Center.)
