St. Francis concludes his “Exhortation to the Brothers and Sisters of Penance (present-day Secular Franciscans)” with a paraphrase of John 17. On Tuesday of the Seventh Week of Easter, the opening verses of this chapter – Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer – comprise the Gospel reading. Jesus’ prayer of eternal solidarity with and among his disciples serves as the interpretive key for my answer to the Gospel question: “ [W]ho do you say that I am? (Matthew 16:15).” In this last week of Easter, as we look forward to the many weeks of Ordinary Time, we feature Fr. Donald Senior’s audio CD series, “The Jesus of Scripture.”  This 12 session, 4 CD title from the eminent New Testament, teacher offers food for the journey of discipleship as we live our lives in response to our Lord’s question. Fr. Senior explores the Gospels as portraits of Jesus and illuminates our Catholic Christian understandings of our Lord as healer, teacher, prophet and Christ. Immersing us fully into the historical realities of the first generations of Christians, Fr. Senior guides us into the riches of our living faith tradition.
