In honor of the September 23rd feast day of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, we feature “Padre Pio, Miracle Man.” How well I remember watching this movie for the first time with my 24 year old daughter.  At a running time of nearly 4 hours, we marveled that the movie seemed so short! Sergio Castellitto reaches deeply into some interior spaces to portray this saint of God with such conviction. This Italian language production has English subtitles and choices of dialogue dubbed in English or Spanish. Produced in 2000 and distributed by Ignatius Press in 2006, the narrative follows the beloved Franciscan priest from childhood until his death at age 81. Padre Pio devotees will savor the intricately staged incidents of his life from his early intimacy with Jesus and Mary to his celebrated gifts as a confessor. Those unfamiliar with this 20th century saint will encounter the Franciscan charisms of poverty and reconciliation and claim him as a brother in Christ.  An informative discussion guide provides reflection questions for the 25 DVD segments.
