Very Reverend John McCormick, Rector of Saint James Cathedral, said: “We shouldn’t keep the new Bishop waiting.” Along with about eighty others, I had been absorbed in Fr. John’s reflection on our Blessed Mother during the Marian Congress on October 23, 2010. People kept repeating “the new Bishop” as we hurried from the upper room in Holy Family’s Parish Life Center into the church narthex. Four hundred people huddled closely together and listened intently as Carol Brinati announced that the Marian Congress participants were the first group of the faithful to meet Bishop John Noonan. As Bishop Noonan stepped to the microphone, I looked around for a vantage point to see him directly. I quickly grabbed a chair, climbed on it and braced myself against a marble column. I took the measure of the man as he invoked St. Augustine’s blessing. Emotions ran high as we absorbed his every word. The following Sunday, I felt a deep sense of kinship with Zacchaeus, the short man who climbed a tree to see Jesus in St. Luke’s Gospel. In honor of Bishop Noonan’s first anniversary as our fifth bishop, we feature: “Installation of Most Reverend John Noonan.” This DVD includes the celebration of Evening Prayer at St. James Cathedral on December 15, 2010 and the Installation Mass on December 16, 2010.
