During the week of February 2nd through February 9th, the diocese will sponsor, “Why Catholics Read the Bible?” in conjunction with RENEW International. This free, 2-hour, faith enrichment workshop will be offered by host parishes in each deanery. Each adult member of every parish is invited to reserve a seat in either a Spanish or English-language workshop by clicking here. A couple of years ago, I overheard a popular misconception about Catholics. As I entered the community room of a local restaurant, I passed by a group of bible study participants. A young man remarked: “My girlfriend’s Catholic and she says that Catholics don’t study the bible. They just listen to what the priest has to say about it.”

On the contrary, Pope Benedict XVI has proclaimed that scriptural knowledge is essential to the church’s evangelizing mission. Similarly, Jesuit Father Drew Christiansen noted that “scripture ought to be the anchor of Catholic thought and Catholic devotion.” Our Media Center has many bible study resources for group and individual use. Ranging from Little Rock Scripture Study series to animated bible stories, we have resources for every age group.
