Media Center Pick of the Week: Lord, Teach Us To Pray

Father Bob Webster, Diocesan Director of Liturgy, hailed the Third Edition of the Roman Missal as a moment of new evangelization for the Church in the English-speaking world. In service to this teachable moment, we feature: “Lord, Teach Us to Pray.” With 25 short (2 minute) segments, this DVD reviews each distinct part of the Mass.

While new translations of the assembly’s responses are read and scrolled on the screen, we are invited to reflect on the historical texture and affirmations of faith in the movements of the Mass. The text of the Gloria dates to a hymn of the third century and echoes the angelic annunciation to the shepherds in the field: “Glory to God in the highest and peace to people of goodwill.” We are reminded to receive the scriptural readings in the present moment as God speaking directly to us.

The Lamb of God litany draws on the imagery of the exodus experience and proclaims Jesus as the lamb of the new covenant. Developed by the Pax Christi Catholic Community in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, this DVD serves as a primer on the new words we will soon speak and the timeless meaning of our faith.
