As a community of Catholic faithful, we remember Sister Dorothy Stang, S.N.D.de N. on the anniversary of her February 12, 2005 assassination in the Amazon rainforest. Shortly after her death, Father Robert D’Aversa, T.O.R., offered a short reflection at San Pedro Center. He spoke about the grace-filled reality of Christian martyrdom and this special friend for our local community of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
In honor of this heroic religious sister, and in memory of our own fierce warrior for the Apopka farmworkers, Sr. Cathy Gorman, we feature three separate titles: the 2008 documentary, “They Killed Sister Dorothy,” narrated by Martin Sheen; “Sister Dorothy Stang – Witness to Justice,” and the 30 minute “The Student, The Nun, The Amazon.”
Standing against marginalization of indigenous people and decimation of the natural environment, Sr. Dorothy proclaimed the Beatitudes to her assassins. How blessed are we to befriend her in the communion of saints! Use this DVD to highlight Catholic Social Teaching for high school and adult groups.
