Our Catholic Faith: Mission, Formation, and Ministry

“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing.” (Luke 10:41)

The hallmarks of discipleship are listening and serving. Listening to the heart of Jesus is essential to good discipleship. It is easy to lose sight of the focus in ministry by the many demands placed on individuals in parish life. A ministry of presence to others is formed by a letting go of self so that a genuine and effortless experience of hospitality inundates our relationship to others.

Keynote Presentation: “Discipleship”

The call to ministry is for all the baptized. Through an understanding of discipleship and the role of collaboration, we can develop a new vision of ministry in the Church. Cynthia Wood (English) and Adele Gonzalez (Spanish) will articulate this vision and set the tone for the conference by reminding us of our baptismal call to serve and listen as fully formed disciples.

Cynthia Wood is the Adult Faith Enrichment and Education Coordinator at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Valrico, Florida. Cynthia is currently pursuing a Masters in Theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville. She also works full time as an Environmental Biologist with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where she has conducted numerous leadership workshops and communication seminars.

Adele Gonzalez is the founder and president of “Get With It”. She has a Doctor of Ministry Degree from the University of St. Thomas specializing in Contemporary Spirituality. Adele has been actively involved in the formation of lay ministers in the Catholic Church for over 30 years and for twelve years was a Theology professor at Barry University. Adele is a national speaker in the areas of Spirituality, Multiculturalism, and Lay Ministry.
