The logo for World Youth Day 2013 has been revealed in the John Paul II Centre in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. WYD 2013 will be held in that Brazilian city next year.
Vatican Radio has announced that the logo, work of a young Brazilian artist Gustavo Huguenin, portrays a heart (symbol of youth) in the colors of the national flag (green and yellow). At the centre of the heart is the silhouette of the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro. At the top is a cross, in recollection of the fact that the core of WYD is Christ Himself.
Reminder: The Diocese of Orlando is organizing a pilgrimage to World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for young adults ages 18-39. The travel dates are July 19-30, 2013. The highlight of the journey will be World Youth Day activities with our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI and 1 million pilgrims from around the world.
The itinerary also includes a visit to holy sites, such as the Jesuit ruins where Society of Jesus priests built an elaborate mission and ministered to the native people teaching them of Christ’s love. Another day will be spent traveling to Iguazu Falls, which lie on the border between Argentina and Brazil and form one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. Such spectacular beauty will be a spiritual encounter with the majesty of God and be an opportunity for deep prayer, reflection and connection with other faith-filled young people.
The Office of Faith Formation – Young Adult Ministry and the Office of Vocations are partnering together for this encounter with the universal Church and our Lord. For more information, please contact: Amanda Livermore (407)246-4863 or ALivermore@orlandodiocese.org.
