ORLANDO | Instagram Takeovers came about as actors wanted to be more involved on social media platforms. They took over their show’s account and shared behind-the-scenes events, promoting their show through the actor’s perspective. Katherine Laguna, media development manager for the Diocese of Orlando, loved the idea and decided to give it a new twist.
“It was a cool and unique way for the fans to see their favorite characters in real life. I wanted to take that concept and evangelize in a different way by using our own clergy to speak to the people through their own words. They’re telling their own story,” said Laguna.
The first Instagram Takeover went live with Father Miguel González, rector of St. James Cathedral, Sept. 16. Followers got a glimpse into a day in the life of a priest, from celebrating Mass to grocery shopping for his parents. Father González reflected on the importance of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and offered advice on various topics, including marriage.
