For the fourth consecutive year, Bishop John Noonan and Education Secretariat Director Henry Fortier cook burgers and hot dogs for all of the Morning Star School students, a special education facility in Orlando.
Bishop Noonan, who was once a school president and principal, particularly enjoys spending time with students. Fortier noted that “Bishop Noonan spends just as much time if not more with those who are most vulnerable, those who society would say are more disposable.” He added, “What Bishop Noonan shows by visiting the students goes against society just as much as Jesus did in the gospel teachings so often—that these students are just as valuable as every other person.”
“To me, the cookout represents respect for human dignity and that all people are important in God’s eyes, regardless of what degree you hold or what talent you have – and those that are often forgotten get the attention of our highest church official in Orlando, to sit and spend time with them and to serve them.”
