As noted in the official 2015/2016 Diocesan Liturgical Calendar, the obligation to attend Mass on August 15, 2016, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, has been abrogated by the USCCB because it falls on a Monday. This does not mean that August 15th is not a solemnity and a significant day in the liturgical year. All Masses on August 15, 2016 are to be for the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A Funeral Ritual Mass is allowed. Regularly scheduled Sunday Masses in the afternoon/early evening on August 14th are to be for Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time and are not for the Vigil of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
