World Communications Day is celebrated each year on the Solemnity of the Ascension, this year on May 8. This is also the day that parishes around the country take up a special collection for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Catholic Communications Campaign (CCC). The essential mission of the CCC is to contribute to the process of evangelization by fostering activities in relation to television, radio, internet, and other media, and through special projects of the Catholic press. Fifty percent of the funds collected go to the National Office. From these funds, grants are made by the USCCB. The remaining portion of the collection is retained by the Diocese of Orlando for use in local communication projects, such as the Faith Fit App, Faith Fit Radio, Buena Nueva Radio, YouTube videos and podcasts.
EXCERPT FROM Pope Francis Message, 50th World Day of Communications,
|“Divine and Mercy: A Fruitful Encounter”|
“Communication has the power to build bridges, to enable encounter and inclusion, and thus to enrich society. How beautiful it is when people select their words and actions with care, in the effort to avoid misunderstandings, to heal wounded memories and to build peace and harmony.”
