Fifty-six feet above the ground, a brass bell rings from the bell tower at St. Margaret Mary Parish. The chimes echo throughout neighborhoods and businesses in Winter Park. The bell was cast at the historic Paccard Bell Foundry in Annecy, France before traveling across the sea to the St. Margaret Mary Parish bell tower and was installed in October of last year. Now, two more bells will be making their way across the Atlantic to this community.
Two new bells scheduled for installation in the church’s bell tower this October have been cast at the 220-year-old Piccard Foundry. The main bell was dedicated to the parish patroness, Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque. The new bells, which are being donated through the generosity of Aimee and Michael Kakos, have been dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel and St. Agnes of Rome.
Throughout the Diocese of Orlando only a handful of parishes and schools have actual bells as opposed to an electronic recording of bells. These include St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School in Orlando and Annunciation Parish in Altamonte Springs.
Father Richard Walsh, pastor, hopes the bells will welcome more people to the parish. He said, “I hope the bells will be a visible sign of welcome to all, calling us to prayer and reminding us of the compassionate mercy of our Lord, Jesus Christ.”
