Ten men share stories of faith on their diaconate journey

Ten men will come together to receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders to be ordained Deacons for the Diocese of Orlando at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe on June 10, 2017 at 10 a.m.

All are welcome to attend the Ordination to the Permanent Diaconate. Bishop Noonan invites all the faithful who cannot attend to watch the live stream of the celebration at: http://live.orlandodiocese.org/.

Although these men come from all walks of life and bring different cultures and backgrounds, they all share one thing in common – they have responded to God’s calling to serve the Church and God’s people through the vocation of Deacon.

Deacon David Gray, secretary of leadership and parish life for the Diocese of Orlando, said that each of the ten men bring with them different gifts and talents and have journeyed from different walks of life and professions.

“It is through this diversity that the gifts of the Holy Spirit work through the diaconate community in our family life, our professional life and in our Church communities,” said Deacon Gray. “Through the gift of the diaconate vocation our hope is that our presence will bring forth a continued renewal of spirit of evangelization throughout the world. The lives of these men and their families are called to be a living example of God’s presence in the world as they continue to be guided by the Holy Spirit.

The discernment and formation process for those who feel called to the vocation of Deacon begins with a year of formal discovery followed by five years of concentrated formation that includes theology classes from St. Leo University and approximately 400 hours of dimensional workshops that help form the men and their wives in the human, spiritual, pastoral and diaconal dimensions of their lives.
