The Vatican entered the world of new media with the launch of a news information portal that coincides with the 60th anniversary of Pope Benedict XVI’s ordination. Vatican officials say that The Holy Father has been following the development of the portal, which will for the first time aggregate information from the Vatican’s various print, online, radio and television media in a one-stop-shop to obtain news from the Holy See.
The portal launched on June 28 just before the 60th anniversary of Benedict’s ordination as a priest. Monsignor Claudio Maria Celli, who heads the Vatican office that developed the portal and will maintain it, said creation of the news information portal is the latest step taken by the Vatican to bring evangelization to a greater, Internet-savvy audience and follows its forays into Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
The portal also has its own Twitter feed:http://twitter.com/#!/news_va_en
