Click here to listen to World Report from Catholic Relief Services for an update on the situation in Nepal.
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal in the late morning of April 25, toppling buildings and homes, causing widespread panic, and claiming thousands of lives. Our Church mourns the terrible suffering of our brothers and sisters affected by this powerful earthquake.
In solidarity with our brothers and sisters affected by this destruction, I ask that you pray for them and offer a special diocesan collection for Nepal Earthquake Relief this weekend, May 2-3. At the urging of Most Reverend Joseph Kurtz, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, our diocese will join dioceses throughout the United States in our prayers and special collection.
Contributions received from this special diocesan collection will be directed to Catholic Relief Services, the official humanitarian agency of the Catholic community which is already responding to urgent needs for shelter, water and food, and medical care in Nepal, as well as the long-term needs to rebuild the communities in the regions affected after widespread destruction.
We continue to pray for all the people including relief service workers and others affected by this catastrophe. May we announce the Good News that what God promised our fathers he has fulfilled for us.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend John Noonan
Bishop of Orlando
