Faith in God throughout the ballgame

“Let’s go Knights!” That’s what the crowd shouted as the boys from Holy Family Catholic School in Orlando and Holy Redeemer Catholic School in Kissimmee ran down the gymnasium floor.

I got so lucky to be at the first home game of the Lenten Season. As I was interviewing the players, I noticed that they all share something in common. It’s that they all have Jesus in them to lead them to victory.

“Come on Knights!” One of the mothers screamed from the top of her lungs. Bam! Holy Family basketball team scores their first point. The people on the stands start to cheer. Imagine how it would have felt when a crowd gathered around Jesus during the moment they shouted “Crucify him!”

After a few minutes Holy Redeemer makes their first point also. The crowd goes wild.

As I sit on the stands cheering for the players, I notice the basketball team wants to win, just like Jesus wants us to win in love with everyone. So for this Lent I am happy that I was able to be there to witness how Jesus works even in the simplest of forms such as a sporting event. Although Holy Redeemer did not win, they worked hard.
