“Girls on the Run” is a club popular among young girls at Sacred Heart Catholic School in New Smyrna Beach. They focus on fitness, learn about healthy lifestyle, and motivate young girls to have confidence. “Girls on the Run” coaches Mrs. Jen Waldo and Mrs. Kim Barker encourage their young members to be very positive about fitness.
At the end of each year, the “Girls on the Run” complete a 5K running event at Father Lopez Catholic High School in Daytona Beach. Club member Phoenix M. said, “It is so much fun to be in ‘Girls on the Run’. We get to hang out with people and the coaches are very nice, aside from being able to exercise!”
This year the girls and their coaches set up a bake sale to raise money for the Southeast Volusia Humane Society, a charity group that the they are passionate about. The club event raised nearly $500.
No matter what club or organization Sacred Heart students belong to, the Redemptorist charism of helping the most abandoned – whether human beings or animals – is clearly evident and lived out!
