Katey J., thank you for the question. It strikes right into the issue of why we sing at church. However, there are others who may not be able to sing at all for health reasons or who may be tone deaf and their singing may create a disturbance to the others around them. So they prefer to sing in the silence of their hearts or so softly only they can hear themselves. Another reason is sheer indifference to the liturgy which is not for us to judge for whatever reason(s) they may have. It is the goal of every Catholic parish community to enhance congregational singing and please spread this idea. God bless and keep singing!
